Founded by Julie and Tim, and a passionate team of volunteers, ABOT has become one of the Caribbean's leading grassroots marine conservation organizations in just a few years. What makes that even more remarkable is that the organization is entirely volunteer-run. There are no paid staff members, only people united by one goal: protecting Antigua and Barbuda's incredible marine ecosystems for future generations.

Behind every statistic is a volunteer choosing to spend time underwater protecting an ecosystem that supports communities, tourism, and marine life.
Nearly 150 volunteers are part of ABOT's network, including around 70 active divers.
Volunteers completed 480+ dives during the UN-funded cleanup project.
Removed 2,400+ pounds of marine debris from 22 sites around the islands.
Cleared more than 17 miles of fishing line.
Recovered 450+ fishing hooks and 270+ fishing weights.
The Wild Coast Cleaners crew removed 5,600+ cubic feet of debris from remote beaches and coastlines.
But cleaning the ocean is only part of the story.
Through its EcoDiver Program, ABOT is investing in the next generation of ocean advocates by helping local youth earn their PADI Open Water and Advanced Open Water certifications while learning directly from marine scientists, conservationists, and environmental experts. Students graduate with more than just dive certifications - they become lifelong stewards of the ocean and active members of ABOT's volunteer dive team.
Education remains at the heart of everything they do. Community movie nights, public outreach, marine conservation campaigns, and the Safe Sunscreen Initiative are helping residents, visitors, resorts, and local businesses make choices that better protect fragile coral reef ecosystems.
By creating opportunities for people to get involved, ABOT is turning awareness into action and building a growing community of ocean advocates across Antigua and Barbuda.
Their monthly marine conservation movie nights bring together residents, visitors, and local experts to spark conversations about protecting the ocean, proving that education can be just as powerful as hands-on conservation.
Through initiatives like the Safe Sunscreen Initiative, ABOT is also working directly with resorts, dive shops, and businesses to encourage reef-safe products and more sustainable tourism practices before new environmental regulations take effect.
